2010 F1 calendar announced

E-mail Print PDF

The FIA took advantage of the WMSC meeting over Fixgate to rush out the definitive 2010 race calendar for Formula One, which is largely as expected, aside from the bad news that the season will open with the tedious Bahrain GP.

The calendar sees the 2010 season extended to 19 races, with the Canadian event provisionally returning to the schedule assuming the final talks with FOM over the contract details pass without incident. Also included on the expanded calendar is an event in South Korea in October, which will probably be bobbins.

The season will begin with the Bahrain GP on the 14th March, with the traditional season opener at Melbourne falling back to the second round of the season. This move is due to the Australian GP's needless later start time for European TV audiences requiring a late March date to coincide with the start of daylight saving time in Europe.

Both Germany and Belgium have events listed, despite both tracks struggling to afford to keep their contracts with the sport alive.

The season will finish on 14th November with the Brazilian Grand Prix, as this year's closing round at Abu Dhabi moves to be the penultimate event.
