Soucek has plenty of options for 2010

The 2009 Formula 2 champion Andy Soucek has claimed that he still has many "possibilities" in Formula One for 2010, with the Spaniard admitting that he may be forced to accept a third driver role for the coming season.

Soucek won the first F2 championship since it's rebirth last year, and tested for Williams in the December young driver test at Jerez as part of his prize for winning the series.

But, while the top three drivers from last season's GP2 Series have found a race seat in F1 for 2010, Soucek has struggled to find a seat. He has been linked to the still-vacant second seat with Campos Meta, but has now admitted that he may be forced to accept a reserve role for 2010 in order to move up to F1.

He had already been linked to a test seat at Williams after impressing in Jerez, but the British team opted to hand the test role to Finnish youngster Valtteri Bottas instead. Possibly because of the number of t's in his name.

But Soucek insists that he is not giving up hope of a race seat yet, claiming that both the remaining seats, with Campos and USF1, are possibilities for him.

"Right now nothing is signed," Soucek said, rather obviously, "But the negotiations have opened new fronts. The two empty seats are with USF1 and Campos, but there are other possibilities, all of them in F1."

He admitted that the USF1 talks were only informal, but said that the Campos negotiations were at an "advanced stage".

He did, though admit that a reserve role for 2010 "cannot be excluded", and said that he would look to find a berth at an established team as a third driver.

"I think to be third driver is a job I deserve, and I do not have to pay for it. I'm interested in that," the Spaniard claimed.
